The neurodivergent mind can be an overwhelming place, burdened with a multitude of negative thoughts and anxieties. Both my daughter and I confront daily struggles with ADHD. "A Terraformed Sanctuary" is my envisioning of an imaginary landscape that serves as a tranquil refuge, offering respite from the chaos and challenges of neurodivergent experiences.
In Chinese landscape paintings, lines communicate visual beauty and emotional consciousness. Each stroke signifies my anxious neurons, reflecting the intricate workings of my chaotic mind. These delicate lines embody the softness of vulnerability, ceaselessly moving and forming a rhythmic tapestry. Interweaving and intersecting, they transform into a resplendent haven.
The haven I have created extends beyond the canvas boundaries, depicting the ongoing repairs sought by my troubled mind. It represents growth and adaptation, constantly evolving and adjusting to the ever-changing landscape of my emotions. Through the act of painting this piece, my motivation transcends the surface, becoming a profoundly personal journey of self-discovery and a coping mechanism for anxiety.
Through this artwork, I aim to offer a glimpse into the intricate workings of a neurodivergent mind, inviting viewers to contemplate their own inner landscapes and fostering dialogue about mental health.
