Statement
Bits and Pieces explores the idea—identity is shaped through cross-cultural encounters, a constant non-binding, lived reality. Mah aims to express his perspectives and concerns as an Australian of Chinese descent in this time of renewed Sinophobia. Using materials e.g., mechanisms, scent and QR code, and familiar cultural influences, viewers are engaged to contemplate on how connected they all are. Their and his identities are all works in progress, never-ending messy tapestries of woven lines and tangled knots.
